    GrowthMindset is seeking a Technical Writer for a  12-month contract position with one of our leading clients in Tukwila, WA.

     

    The Technical Writer works closely with a team of technical writers and subject matter experts to develop and edit content for a variety of deliverables, including knowledge base articles, flow charts, manuals, standard operating procedures, corporate policies and guidelines, troubleshooting guides, and quick-reference job aids. The role independently conducts informational interviews with subject matter experts on moderately complex subject matter, and proofreads and conducts peer reviews of draft content for quality assurance while maintaining a keen focus on users’ needs. The Technical Writer also collaborates with cross-functional project teams to document internal systems and new  products and services, helping to define team standards and processes.  This position is supporting the project team. This position allows a flexible work schedule.

    Responsibilities

    • Perform all responsibilities in accordance with corporate Competencies, compliance, regulatory and Information Protection requirements.
    • Develops and edits content for a variety of deliverables, including knowledge base articles, flow charts, manuals, standard operating procedures, corporate policies and guidelines, troubleshooting guides, and quick-reference job aids.
    • Lead multiple small to mid-sized information-development projects, from inception to completion, simultaneously. Scope user assistance development work and track to (and report on) key KM project milestones.
    • Create content plans and content specifications, host technical review sessions, and use test environments to become familiar with new features, functionality, and workflows well enough to translate them into meaningful tasks.
    • Design, develop, edit, publish, and maintain user assistance content, advocating for users by avoiding ambiguity, generalization, and jargon.
    • Build and maintain relationships with cross-functional team members to stay current on new initiatives, projects and activities that require content development.
    • Collaborate with subject matter experts and project leads to develop, maintain and improve content to ensure it is accurate and complete.
    • Curate published content to ensure content integrity, using analytics to remove inaccurate, trivial, or redundant content.
    • Serve as a mentor or coach to team members. Perform peer reviews, copyediting and content editing.
    • Coordinate and conduct annual and ad hoc reviews to validate the relevancy and accuracy of published content, and to assess and improve content integrity and usability.
    • Collect, evaluate and incorporate user feedback into published content. Consult with users and subject matter experts to maximize the “findability and usability” of knowledge assets.
    • Manage version and source control of draft and published content.
    • Maintain technical and functional competency with corporate knowledge management systems, tools and processes, and keep current with developments and trends in the knowledge management industry. 
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, English, Journalism, Communications, or related field required, or equivalent work or educational experience. 
    • Minimum 3 years of technical writing experience in a business environment required.
    • Experience with HTML and CSS required.
    • Continued education and/or professional certification in knowledge management or technical communications preferred.
    • Familiarity with structured writing, industry-standard technical writing conventions and best practices preferred.
    • Experience with Adobe InDesign and MadCap Flare preferred.
    • Excellent technical writing skills required.
    • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills required.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required to effectively communicate and provide customer service.
    • Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary.

    Must have's:

    • Experience writing for a technical audience/writing procedures/PowerPoint procedures.
    • Able to shift the audience writing for.
    • Experience with translating and interviewing.
    • Education writing a plus.
